General CBD Questions
CBD stands for cannabidiol. It is one of more than 113 cannabinoid compounds naturally found in the cannabis plant. Cannabis flowers (both hemp and marijuana) secrete a sticky resin rich in cannabinoids like CBD, as well as terpenes and other phytochemicals. Unlike THC, the other main cannabinoid in the cannabis plant, CBD is non-psychoactive. This means that, regardless of the amount consumed, it does not produce the psychoactive effects typically associated with marijuana.
CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system, a complex network of receptors and neurotransmitters spread throughout the body. This system is responsible for regulating the balance of various organ systems. The highest concentration of these receptors is found in the brain, central nervous system, and immune system. Almost every organ in the body, including the skin and digestive tract, contains cannabinoid receptors. The endocannabinoid system controls numerous important biological functions, including:
Mood and stress
Sleep and rest cycles
Pain perception
Inflammation and immune response
Appetite and digestion
Memory and concentration
Body temperature regulation
Hormonal balance
CBD, by interacting with this system, does not generate psychoactive effects but helps restore the body’s natural balance, also known as homeostasis. That is why it can have applications in areas like stress management, pain relief, sleep improvement, and immune support, among others.
From a scientific perspective, both hemp and marijuana belong to the same species: Cannabis sativa. The difference lies in their chemical composition. Any substance with less than 0.2% THC by dry weight is classified as hemp (non-psychoactive), while any amount higher is considered marijuana (psychoactive). Hemp is most commonly used to make foods (hemp seeds), ropes, paper, building materials, natural plastics, and, most importantly, supplements like CBD oil. Marijuana is used for recreational, spiritual, or medical purposes due to its psychoactive effects. At Ultimate Physiocare CBD, we only use hemp plants specifically grown for their high CBD content and absence of psychoactive THC.
Yes. CBD is CBD, whether it comes from a hemp plant or a marijuana plant. However, the ratio of cannabinoids varies significantly between a hemp plant and a marijuana plant. The most obvious difference is THC and CBD: marijuana has high THC content and generally low CBD levels, while hemp has high CBD content and low THC levels. Other cannabinoids also vary considerably between these two plants. Terpenes also differ significantly between hemp and marijuana, but this depends on the strains used and can vary widely from one plant to another. Our partner farmers use selectively bred hemp strains with a higher terpene content than conventional hemp plants.
The appropriate CBD dose depends on several factors: body weight, individual sensitivity, and the intended purpose (general wellness, rest, muscle relief, etc.). As a general guide, it is recommended to start with 1 to 6 mg of CBD per 10 lbs (4.5 kg) of body weight per day, and gradually increase until the optimal amount is found.
At Ultimate Physiocare, we offer high-concentration oils in large volumes, which allows for efficient dosing with a smaller amount of product:
▸ Isolate Oils 30%
30 ml (9000 mg of CBD in total) → approx. 15 mg per drop
100 ml (30,000 mg of CBD in total) → approx. 15 mg per drop
▸ Broad Spectrum Oil 40% – 30 ml
12,000 mg of CBD in total → approx. 20 mg per drop
▸ Full Spectrum Oil 40% – 30 ml
12,000 mg of CBD in total → approx. 20 mg per drop
Initial recommendation: Start with 1 or 2 drops per day, hold for a few days, and adjust based on how you feel. Place the oil under your tongue and wait 60 to 90 seconds before swallowing to maximize absorption.
It is always better to start with a small amount and increase as needed. Listen to your body: consistency is key.
Many people tend to confuse CBD-rich hemp extracts with the hemp seed oil found in supermarkets. In fact, these two oils are completely different. Standard hemp seed oil is made by cold-pressing the seeds of the hemp plant. The resulting oil is rich in nutrients like gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), amino acids, and trace elements. It is an excellent source of nutrition but does not contain CBD or any other cannabinoid. CBD hemp oils, on the other hand, are made from the resinous flowers of female hemp plants (without seeds). The resin is extracted using state-of-the-art extraction methods to collect the naturally occurring cannabinoids and terpenes in the plant’s resin. This is the source of CBD.
